Look! The heron has a
lizard in his bill.

Too bad this isn't a video, you'd see how the bird thrashed the lizard a lot, and how the lizard wriggled a lot.

The lizard looks like it's hanging limp, but it is really struggling (that's why it's blurry in the photo).

some more. What is he trying to do?

The heron's reward: Lizard Tail,
a swallowable delicacy.

The lizard tail kept wriggling for several minutes, until the heron had finally swallowed it.

Great Blue Heron at Half Moon Bay 

What can I say? It was a beautiful bird, with interesting eating habits. And what about the lizard? Its tail snapped off from its body (or body, from tail) but the heron didn't notice the missing torso. Or didn't mind. And the lizard survived the encounter.
