Canada Geese (Branta canadensis);  Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis). This is as close as I could get to photograph these birds--they're busy migrating!
Above left, a sandpiper wades in the water at Cosumnes River Preserve; right, a coot swims in a strangely, organically red body of water.

We have ducks, geese, and (I think) Black Oystercatchers, all hanging out together at Cosumnes River Preserve. Below, one of many hawks that we saw on February 21, 2009.
